A few months ago our good friend Ben Dixon came to us with the awesome idea of having an event at Cesar Chavez Skatepark. We could swap old skateboards for new skateboards, and all the old skateboards traded in would be given to kids who didn't have skateboards at all. We loved the idea and were excited to have it at Cesar Chavez because we hadn't done an event there in a while. Our friends at DC Shoes were more than happy to help us turn this idea into a reality. Skate After School came through with tons of boards and components to fix kids up with their set up keeping the skate stoke alive. The event turned out to be even better than we expected and we were able to help 100 plus kids get set up with either a new complete, used complete or swapping out broken parts for working ones. DC hooked up the kids who had the most beat shoes with a fresh pair. Local ledgends Justin Modica, Ryan Lay and Aaron "Jaws" Homoki came by to help out, skate and hang out with the kids. Shortly after the skateboard swap the kids put their new gear to work. We started the 12 and under best trick contest and the kidos skated their hearts out. We even had a backflip! Shortly after, the older guys and sponsored division had their chance to show everyone what they were made of. At the end of it all Lucas Alves from Brazil killed it and took home the prize money. Keeping kids skateboarding or introducing someone to our supportive community brings us so much joy. A huge thank you DC Shoes, Ben Dixon, Skate After School, as well as everyone with the City of Phoenix who made this event possible. We look foward to the next one.
